Cars in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police reported they were notified by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.

A senior official stated the attack left him stunned and had to be addressed quickly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
